Report: Obama will attack Romney on flip-flopping and abortion

President Obama is in attack mode.

President Obama is in attack mode.

The commander-in-chief will go on offense and call Mitt Romney out over his abortion stance during Tuesday night's presidential debate, NBC's Kristen Welker reports, citing sources close to the campaign. Obama also will argue that Romney misrepresented his views during the first debate, when he portrayed himself as a moderate, according to the report.

"We've seen [Romney] say whatever's convenient. He's tried to muddy the waters on the issue," PoliticsNation host Al Sharpton said, noting that the hot-button issue did not come up during the first face-off, in which Obama was criticized for being listless and professorial.

Indeed, the Republican presidential nominee's position on abortion seems to have changed.

Earlier this month, Romney told the Des Moines Register that "there's no legislation with regards to abortion that I'm familiar with that would become part of my agenda." A day later, the GOPer's spokesperson seemed to walk back the remarks, saying Romney would "of course support legislation aimed at providing greater protections for life."

In what might be an effort to muddy the waters even more, a Virginia mailer from Team Romney was sent out this week declaring the Republican stands for "choice."

"It's your health. Shouldn't it be your choice?" the mailer reads.

The mailing was actually about health care. But by using the word "choice" Romney seems to be implying women should have autonomy over their own reproductive decisions, Sharpton suggested.

"A Romney presidency means Roe vs. Wade would be in the greatest peril it has been in, in two decades," Sharpton declared.
