The Obama campaign's David Axelrod is so confident the president will win in Minnesota, Michigan, and Pennsylvania that he's bet his mustache on it.

"I'm telling you Joe, with all due respect to the public polls out there, they're all over the map" the president's chief campaign strategist said on Wednesday. "I will come on Morning Joe and I will shave off my mustache of 40 years if we lose any of those three states."

The hosts agreed, but Axelrod, who sports a hearty, salt-and-pepper Chevron-style mustache that would make Tom Selleck proud, asked host Joe Scarborough to ante up. "Yes, but I should make a deal that says you grow one if we do win them," Axelrod said.

Scarborough had other ideas for the whiskers wager.

"If you guys win Florida or North Carolina, how about that?" he said "I will grow a mustache if you win Florida or North Carolina."

"Florida and/or North Carolina?" Axelrod confirmed. "Alright!"

Game on, gentlemen.
