It’s a sad day for Americans who love Twinkies, SnoBalls, Ding Dongs and Ho Hos: Hostess announced today that the company is going out of business due to the Bakers Union strike. Senator John McCain took to social media to mourn:

Fellow Arizonian, Rep. David Schweiker, has a more sober reaction to the news:

Number of the day: 18,500. 18,500 jobs will b gone when Hostess closes doors today b/c of unions refusal 2 negotiate. twitter.com/RepDavid/statu… — Rep David Schweikert (@RepDavid) November 16, 2012

The CEO of Hostess told NBC that the move was not a negotiating ploy. “It’s over. This is it,” he said.
