Sen. Rand Paul is sure actress Ashley Judd stands no chance of toppling Mitch McConnell in her home state of Kentucky. Why? She’s just “too damn liberal.”
The Tea Party favorite made the claim during a radio interview on WMAL on Wednesday morning, following reports that Judd was mulling a bid against the Senate's minority leader. Paul also took a hit at the Democrat for having a home in Scotland (Her husband is Scottish racing driver Dario Fanchitti) when asked if he was threatened by a Judd run against him.
“I heard she lives in Scotland. I thought she was running for parliament,” joked Paul. Judd grew up in eastern Kentucky but currently has homes in Tennessee and Scotland.
On a serious note, Paul argued “She’s way damn too liberal for our country, for our state. She hates our biggest industry, which is coal. So I say good lucking bringing the ‘I hate coal’ message to Kentucky.”
Judd has previously spoken out against mountaintop coal mining (a process that involves blasting the tops off of mountains to extract coal), although advocates say she’s hardly against all coal mining.
Paul didn’t stop there, wondering out loud how she would commute to Capitol Hill from overseas since the Concorde supersonic is no longer around.
“They don’t have the Concorde anymore,” Paul griped.
McConnell is one of 13 Republicans up for re-election in 2014.
