South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley was expected to name her pick to fill the seat of outgoing Sen. Jim DeMint, R, S.C. Monday at noon.

DeMint, a Tea Party favorite, will leave his post to lead the Heritage Foundation, a conservative think tank. DeMint reportedly favored freshman Rep. Tim Scott, R., S.C., to succeed him. If selected, Scott would be the first African-American Senator from South Carolina.

Other Palmetto state conservatives in the running include Jenny Sanford, the wife of former Gov. Mark Sanford, and another freshman congressman from South Carolina, Rep. Tim Gowdy.

Whomever is chosen will complete the two years left in DeMint's term and then run for a full-term in 2014.
