President Obama vowed fast action on curbing gun violence. But how fast is fast? Will we have something by February, shortly after the commission the president named Joe Biden to lead wraps up its work? Or will it take longer, years even, like the first assault weapons ban did?

More pro-gun senators are coming out in favor of restrictions on assault weapons.

Nearing the cliff: The fiscal cliff talks have gone sour, as the House today votes on John Boehner's "Plan B" which would raise tax rates only on those making over a million dollars. Another Ted Kennedy could be coming to the Senate: Ted Kennedy, Jr., son of the late senator and the brother of former Rhode Island Congressman Patrick Kennedy, is well positioned to clear the Democratic field provided John Kerry is tapped as Secretary of State. Meanwhile, a new poll finds outgoing Sen. Scott Brown beating several Democrats for Kerry's seat.

Sen. Kerry will oversee hearings on the Benghazi attack today before the Senate Foreign Relations Committee. Meanwhile, Hillary Clinton will testify on Benghazi in January.

Poll of the day: A majority of Americans says the Republican party is too extreme.
