Just one day after the buzz began swirling around Jack Lew as President Obama’s next Treasury secretary nominee, Republicans started knocking him. Nebraska Sen. Mike Johanns told Politico that Lew would be “controversial,” Alabama Sen. Jeff Sessions said he would be “a mistake,” and a Republican aide called Lew “tone deaf.”
If the GOP rancor continues, Lew would be the third potential cabinet nominee roundly criticized by a chorus of Republicans. Wednesday on NOW with Alex Wagner, former traveling press secretary for the Obama campaign Jen Psaki said, “I think if Lindsey Graham was nominated, I’m not sure Lindsey Graham would vote for himself at this point.”
