A confrontational President Obama warned Republicans not to play politics with the debt ceiling. He was talking tough ahead of the new round of fighting over the debt ceiling, urging Republicans not to hold the economy hostage for their own policy gains. He was blunt and kept things in simple terms, hoping to rally the American public to his side, but as Politico reports, there's no easy way to avoid the looming chaos.

And the president says he's willing to use executive orders to enact new gun safety measures to keep dangerous weapons from reaching the hands of would-be gunmen. Considering Republicans on Capitol Hill have lurched far to the right, it may be the only way to make progress on the issue of guns.
