At Tuesday's confirmation hearing it’s Senator John Kerry’s turn to face foreign policy questions from the committee he currently chairs. Senator Kerry will be joined by Secretary of State Clinton one day after she spent hours fielding some tough questions on the 2012 consulate attack in Benghazi and the state of Al Qaeda in North Africa.

In today’s opinion pages: Wyoming Senator John Barrasso discusses the aspects of Chuck Hagel’s record that he labels out of the mainstream in The Wall Street Journal. The Washington Post editorial board tells President Obama to ignore the activists and push forward with the Keystone Pipeline. The New York Times’ Gail Collins marks the significance of Secretary Panetta lifting the ban on women serving in combat.

Later this morning Senator Dianne Feinstein will re-introduce an assault weapons ban nearly nine years after the previous ban expired. The ban is one step endorsed by the president in the quest to preventing gun violence
