The Barbara Bowl: Senators place friendly bet on Superbowl outcome

Two senators who typically find themselves on the same side of the issues find themselves rooting against each other this week as their home state teams prepare to go head to head in Superbowl XLVII.

Maryland Senators Barbara Mikulski and Ben Cardin and California Senators Dianne Feinstein and Barbara Boxer have placed a friendly wager with on the outcome of this Sunday's Superbowl between the Baltimore Ravens and San Francisco 49ers, and Boxer and Mikulski joined PoliticsNation on Wednesday to cheer on their teams.

On the line for the winner? A delicious spread from the opponents home state. If the 49ers win the game, Boxer and Feinstein will enjoy "Faidley's crab cakes, Berger cookies and a cold bottle of Heavy Seas beer to wash down the delicious taste of defeat" provided by Mikulski and Cardin. If the Ravens win, Boxer and Feinstein will share "Dungeness crab, Napa Valley wine, San Francisco’s finest sourdough bread and a selection of Northern California cheeses" for Mikulski and Cardin.

Boxer said called the impending face-off, a "real family feud."

"We've got the two coaches that are brothers, and here you have two sisters of the Senate," she said. "We agree on 95% of the issues and now we are torn asunder."

When faced with the results of the PoliticsNation poll that predicted a 49ers win, Mikulski blamed California's bigger population. "That's not fair," Mikulski said. "They've got 48 million people that can call into you! I've got 5 and a half million."

Watch Mikulski and Boxer's good-natured "trash talking" above.
