Less than two weeks after he announced he would not run for Massachusetts' open U.S. Senate seat, former Senator Scott Brown, R-Mass., has officially joined Fox News as a contributor.
“Senator Brown’s dedication to out-of-the box thinking on key issues makes him an important voice in the country and we are looking forward to his contributions across all FOX News platforms," said Bill Shine, the network's Executive Vice President of Programming, in a press release.
TV stardom runs in Brown's family. His wife, Gail Huff, was a reporter at Boston's WCVB-TV for 17 years before moving to WJLA in Washington, D.C. after Brown was first elected. Their daughter, Ayla, is a pop singer who placed inside the top 16 contestants of American Idol season 5 in 2006.
In 2010, Brown shocked Massachusetts and the nation by defeating Massachusetts Attorney General Martha Coakley and getting elected to the Senate seat left open after long-time Senator Ted Kennedy passed away. Brown lost his re-election bid to Democrat Elizabeth Warren in November. His announcement that he would not seek election again has left the Massachusetts Republican party strapped for a candidate. State Representative Daniel B. Winslow and wealthy businessman Gabriel E. Gomez, a former Navy SEAL, have both announced intentions to run, but neither have run in a major political race before.
