Two-thirds of Americans believe the country is on the wrong track, according to the Bloomberg National Poll--a two-year high.
As Congress flirts with a government shutdown, the poll showed a public alienated from Washington.
Both parties and the president are suffering in their approval ratings. The Democratic Party’s approval rating has reached a two-year low, too. Just 47% of Americans favor the job Obama is doing and 34% approve of the job the GOP is doing—both the lowest rating ever found by the Bloomberg National Poll, which was founded in 2009.
"We’re not even six years in with Barack Obama but you’ve got approval ratings in the thirties for health care, approval in the thirties for the economy," Morning Joe host Joe Scarborough commented. Just 38% of Americans approve of the president's job on the economy.
"It’s across the board. Everything is down," Bloomberg writer Al Hunt said. "In that same poll, the Republicans had an approval rating of 34%. That is the lowest we have ever seen in Bloomberg polls for a party rating. They’re down in Miley Cyrus territory."
The poll surveyed 1,000 adults and was conducted Sept. 20-23. It has a plus or minus margin of error of 3.1%.
