Hedge fund billionaire Paul Tudor Jones touched off a firestorm after The Washington Post obtained a video where he says you will never see as many great women investors or traders as men because they have babies–which are distracting.

“And as soon as that baby’s lips touched that girl’s bosom, forget it. Every single investment idea, every desire to understand what’s going to make this go up or go down is going to be overwhelmed by the most beautiful experience which a man will never share about a mode of connection between that mother and that baby. I just see it happen over and over,” he said at a symposium at the University of Virginia.

Jenna Johnson broke the story and obtained the video after filing a freedom of information request. She described the other panelists laughing nervously and leaning away with their body language.

“But none of them came out and said, ‘You’re wrong Paul, that’s not the way it should be,’” Johnson said on Jansing & Co.

“It reminded me of women are too emotional to be, as they used to say, emergency room doctors, litigators, pilots,” said Lynn Povich, a former Newsweek senior editor and author of ”The Good Girls Revolt: How the Women of Newsweek sued their Bosses and Changed the Workplace.”

“When I started they weren’t credible enough to do real news,” Chris Jansing added.

Povich sued Newsweek in 1970, along with 45 other women, for discrimination and won. Now 43 years later she’s still talking about the struggles of women in the workplace.

“The work family issues for women who are still primarily responsible for taking care of children without any public or private for daycare or paid leave is a problem. And that’s why we have to restructure the workforce that’s built for the 50′s, for the Mad Men era,” Povich said.

The Washington Post reported that several alumnae and female faculty members complained to the university after the event.

Jones later issued a statement to The Washington Post, reading in part:

My off the cuff remarks at the University of Virginia were with regard to global macro traders, who are on-call 24/7 and of whom there are likely only a few thousand successful practitioners in the world today…Life events, such as birth, divorce, death of a loved one and other emotional highs and lows are obstacles to success in this specific field of finance.

Jones also noted that he had encouraged his three daughters to pursue careers macro trading.

Probably the question I get asked the most as a journalist is, “What’s your favorite interview?” I think people always expect that I will talk about a president or a celebrity, and those certainly always make for good stories. But many, if not most, of the people who have stayed with me for years are “regular people.” People like Lee Gibson, now 103 and in pretty good health, still as charming and kind as when I first met him several years ago. Lee Gibson made history, and his story as well as his dignity and humility continue to inspire me. I think you’ll like and admire him as much as I do, once you see his story. He’s the son of a sharecropper who played a pivotal role in this nation’s history.

“Flashback Friday” is a meander down memory lane of stories I’ve covered over the years that may just spark some memories of your own. My team has worked hard scouring our archives and we hope you like them. Tweet me at @jansingco and let us know what you think!

President Obama delivers the commencement address at the Naval Academy Friday morning and he’s expected to expand on themes from his major counterterrorism speech Thursday, where he pledge to close Guantanamo Bay and narrow the drone program. The Washington Post’s Karen Tumulty and Politico’s John Harris will discuss, along with Congressman Adam Schiff.

A Wall Street trader is touching off a firestorm after he said you will never see as many great women investors or traders as men, because they have babies. We’ll talk to the reporter who broke the story, Jenna Johnson and former Newsweek Senior Editor Lynn Povich.

Plus, a look at the New Jersey shore and the politics involved with Steve Kornacki and strategists John Brabender and Jamal Simmons.

In the third case of sexual misconduct in the military in the past couple of months Army Sgt. Michael McClendon is accused of planting a hidden camera in the showers and locker rooms at West Point to record female cadets. Pentagon officials have relieved him of his duties and transferred him to Fort Drum, an army base in northern New York.

McClendon’s suspension follows two cases of other men in charge of sexual assault prevention in the military being accused of assaults themselves.

“Obviously he’s an idiot,” said Colonel Jack Jacobs, a Medal of Honor recipient and West Point instructor, on Jansing & Co. Thursday.

Jacobs said there are a number of factors that can contribute to alleged cases like this one, including: lack of supervision, a lack of command emphasis, and complacency.

“I think when you have these cases over and over again and there’s no response and there’s no accountability for these kinds of rapes and crimes it allows the culture to continue,” Senator Kirsten Gillibrand said on NBC’s Today Thursday.

Former Army Specialist BriGette McCoy, who was raped while she was in the service and testified before Congress, talked openly about sexual assault in the military.

“I think this culture has been ongoing for a while and what’s happening now is just that we’re starting to see actually what’s going on,” McCoy said on Jansing & Co.

Don’t expect to see longtime New York Congressman Charles Rangel campaigning for fellow Democrat Anthony Weiner and his run for New York City mayor anytime soon.

“I don’t think he’s going to have a serious impact on the outcome of the mayor’s race,” Rangel told Jansing & Co.

When asked whether he would endorse Weiner, who resigned in disgrace after a 2011 sexting scandal, Rangel said “only to the extent that only in America can we do these types of things. [Rep. Mark] Sanford did it in [South] Carolina and there goes Anthony Weiner.”

Weiner made his first campaign appearance Thursday morning, meeting with New Yorkers at a subway stop, about a block away from Rangel’s Harlem office.

Chris Jansing toured a 12-by-14 safe room that saved lives on Monday.

A safe room saved a Moore couple and their neighbors from injury when a massive tornado hit the Oklahoma town Monday. Their home was destroyed and they believe they wouldn’t have survived otherwise. The couple walked inside and once the tornado was getting close, they thought they heard hail. But, what they actually heard was their neighbors banging on the door to be let inside.

“And as soon as they stepped [inside] we heard it go by,” the owner said.

“How close was it from the time you let you neighbors in, to when it passed?” Chris Jansing asked.

“It was about a minute,” he answered.

Chris Jansing toured the 12-by-14 room Wednesday. It came with the home when the owners purchased it.

Only 10% of homes in Moore have shelters. The Mayor plans to propose an ordinance to mandate new homes must be built with one. A pre-fabricated shelter starts at $4 thousand and could typically cost between eight and ten thousand dollars.

“It’s a personal choice,” said Lt. Governor Todd Lamb Wednesday. “We don’t have a shelter at my home, just three days ago, my family did what just happened there. My family, my wife, our kids went next door to our neighbors pounded on the door went inside their shelter.”

There is no community shelter in Moore and neither Plaza Towers Elementary School, nor Briarwood Elementary school had shelters. Both took directed hits from the tornado.

“It’s something to think about. I think you’ll see a public debate on securing and having shelters for schools,” Lamb said.
